The two top threads on the eBay Motors discussion board are complaints about eBay's new Parts Compatibility feature, also known as "Fitment." With the Parts Compatibility feature, sellers can create one listing describing a single part and add a complete list of compatible vehicles. But some users complained they were getting back an overwhelming number of search results that included irrelevant listings.

On July 2, a moderator addressed the problem, calling it a "serious concern for everyone on the team right now." She said eBay was making some improvements for the buyers who were seeing "spammy" type listings, and they that would roll out in the next few weeks.

When a user asked if eBay would consider an opt-out checkbox, "like the one for including keywords in item descriptions" for a particular search, she said the team considered it, "but it was decided not to have this functionality - at least for now."

On July 13, the moderator responded to a user on another discussion thread who reported some improvement with regard to spam/multiple listings with a post, "Glad to hear that things are improving a bit. We have been making changes and we hope that they will help," and the last complaints about the problem from eBay Motors users were written on July 15.

Last month, in explaining why it introduced Parts Compatibility, eBay told developers that the average part fit 32 cars, and said Parts Compatibility would lead to listing consolidation that "should result in lowered fees and cost of listing management, reduced returns and reduced ASQ."

eBay Motors receives over 15 million unique visitors per month, and in the first quarter, worldwide Gross Merchandise Volume for the Parts & Accessories category was approximately $1.3 billion.
