Canada Post to Raise Prices on Some U.S. Bound Services

Canada Post is raising prices on two services to the United States, a move that will impact Canadians' ability to be competitive with U.S. online sellers. Canada Post prices will rise, on average, 20 per cent for Xpresspost - USA and Expedited Parcel, to be rolled out in two phases.

Prices will increase on average less than 12% beginning on August 23, 2010, and the remaining price increase will take effect on January 17, 2011. Canada Post said it would enhance the services by offering greater delivery speed, improved on-time delivery performance and better tracking.

Sellers talking about the rate hikes on the eBay Canada discussion board said the new pricing would make it nearly impossible for sellers in Canada to compete with U.S.-based sellers.

When printing shipping labels online via eBay/PayPal, eBay sellers will continue to receive 25% off shipments via Expedited Parcel - USA and 9% off shipments via Xpresspost - USA.

The new rates are scheduled to be updated in eBay's shipping calculator and eBay/PayPal online shipping tool effective August 23, 2010.
