Etsy said it is getting ready to launch a new feature that gives shoppers the ability to see prices in additional currencies - right now, prices are displayed only in U.S. dollars. The marketplace said it was only able to offer currency options supported by PayPal.
Etsy said sellers would continue to list all items with prices in U.S. dollars and said transactions would continue to occur in U.S. dollars; the feature simply allows users to view prices in any of the currencies offered. Prices displayed will be approximate until an item is purchased, at which point the exchange rate is fixed. Etsy said PayPal would be providing it with data to calculate these approximations several times throughout the day.
Currencies will include: Australian Dollars (AUD), Brazilian Real (BRL), British Pounds (GBP), Canadian Dollars (CAD), Czech Koruny (CZK), Danish Kroner (DKK), Euros (EUR), Hong Kong Dollars (HKD), Hungarian Forints (HUF), Israeli Shekels (ILS), Japanese Yen (JPY), Mexican Pesos (MXN), Malaysian Ringgits (MYR), New Zealand Dollars (NZD), Norwegian Kroner (NOK), Philippine Pesos (PHP), Polish Zloty (PLN), Singapore Dollars (SGD), Swedish Kroner (SEK), Swiss Francs (CHF), Taiwan New Dollars (TWD), and Thai Baht (THB).
Etsy is moving toward enabling selling in a user's own currency, and said it would share more details as it gets closer to implementation.
