Etsy has begun rolling out a new Checkout to a small percentage of visitors, the company announced on Friday. The new feature was designed to address "many common complaints and issues" with the current Checkout.
Shipping costs and an order total are displayed in the new cart, along with a space for buyers to write a note to the seller with information needed to complete the order.
There is no longer a "commit to buy" feature - when buyers use PayPal, items aren't marked as sold until the payment is complete, meaning it will no longer be possible to be a "non-paying buyer" if the shopper chooses PayPal as the payment method.
The new Checkout also allows buyers to purchase from one shop without having to remove items that they're not ready to buy.
Etsy sellers are still allowed to accept checks, money orders and other forms of payment. In that case, shoppers are provided a mailing address for their payment or are instructed to contact the shop for more information; after submitting an order, shoppers land on a page that confirms their order was submitted successfully and shows the remaining items in their cart.
Etsy founder Rob Kalin recently said Etsy was evaluating ways to allow for buyers to pay multiple sellers at once.
The announcement and user reaction are located on this Etsy page.
