Wall Street Journal's "All Things D" reports that Yahoo's Vice President for Social Platforms Neal Sample has joined eBay, "where he will be the chief of the ecommerce giant's architecture." Sample's background includes data indexing, techniques for the management of semi-structured data, Grid computing, and data streams; he was previously Yahoo's Chief Architect of Platforms.
On his LinkedIn page, Sample writes he was responsible for Yahoo Open, Social and Participation (YOS) platforms. "In addition to platform development and operation, my group is the primary execution team for Zynga, Facebook, Twitter, and other major Yahoo partner integrations." He explained Yahoo Open Strategy in this 2008 blog post.
eBay has also moved to open platforms, opening Selling Manager to developers and opening its PayPal payments platform to developers last year.
