Former Head of Amazon Auctions to Run Digg News Site
By Ina Steiner

Digg.com named former Amazon.com executive Matt Williams its new CEO. Williams was founder and CEO of LiveBid.com, which ran live event-based auctions and was acquired by Amazon in May 1999. Williams served various roles during his 11-year tenure at Amazon.com, including heading Auctions and Marketplace, WebStore and, most recently, Consumer Payments.

Digg is a "social news site" where users spread content, such as blog posts and articles, by "Digging" them. Digg recently launched changes to its site in version 4, which was controversial among users.

In the company's announcement, Williams wrote, "The launch of version 4 was a big moment for Digg and I believe in the potential of this new platform. There is so much innovation yet to come - being the best in the world at curating news means solving the information overload we all experience every day. The Digg team has already made great strides in this direction and there is much more ahead. I'm excited to join such a talented team and such a vibrant Digg community."
