EcommerceBytes-Update, Number 17 - July 01, 2000 - ISSN 1528-6703

This & That
1) Old Ads
By Ina Steiner

A neat database of over 7,000 advertisements printed in U.S. and Canadian newspapers and magazines between 1911 and 1955. (This is for entertainment only, there is nothing to buy here.) From the Ad*Access Project, funded by the Duke Endowment "Library 2000" Fund. http://scriptorium.lib.duke.edu/adaccess

2) Beware Charity Auctions
By Ina Steiner

If you are considering giving to "virtual" charities, take a look at this article from AuctionWatch. http://www.auctionwatch.com/awdaily/features/charity/index.html

3) Used Cars on eBay
By Ina Steiner

Sellers can get their used cars inspected and post the results when selling them on eBay. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A44696-2000Jun12.html

4) eBay Buys Half.com
By Ina Steiner

In case you missed it, eBay bought Half.com, which we profiled in Issue #9 (http://www.auctionbytes.com/Email_Newsletter/Email_Archives/email_archives.html#halfcom).

5) Harry Potter Strikes Again
By Ina Steiner

Watch out next weekend for a convoy of Fed Ex trucks cruising the streets! The new Harry Potter book becomes available July 8 at 12:01 am, and Amazon.com promised customers they would deliver the books on July 8th via Federal Express at no extra charge. Amazon didn't want the people who show up at bookstores on the 8th to have an unfair advantage over Amazon customers! (Sorry, I can't tell you the title or the plot of the new Harry Potter book - it's a secret.)

6) Declaration of Independence Sold at Online Auction
By Ina Steiner

Sothebys.com auctioned off an original "first copy" of the Declaration of Independence. The buyers said they intend to bring it on a nationwide tour so we can all view it, according to this article. http://2.digital.cnet.com/cgi-bin2/flo?y=esf0ieHP0U0CpNp

7) Brimfield is Next Week!
By Ina Steiner

New England antiquers, the Brimfield antiques show is next week in Brimfield, Massachusetts. For more information, visit Collector's Corner on our Web site and go to the Antiques section. http://www.auctionbytes.com/Collectors_Corner/collectors_corner.html#antique
