This & That
1) Travel-Related Auction Site
By Ina Steiner
David was walking into our local Post Office a few weeks ago when he noticed a woman with an armful of packages - a scene familiar to all of us who do online auctions. After opening the door for her (of course) and talking a bit, it turned out that this woman was also a devoted reader of AuctionBytes! File that in the "Small World" category!
This very reader, Jan, had emailed us just a few days before this accidental meeting about a Site that has some great bargains. It's called the National Tourism Foundation, and they auction off vacation packages, tickets to events, and anything travel-related. In a follow-up email, Jan wrote:
*"It was a pleasure meeting you at the post office. Yes, all those packages are a dead givewaway that I'm an Ebayer. As I mentioned, that auction site for the National Tourism Foundation has been a thrill for me http://www.ntfonline.org/auction. The auctions have been an amazing deal. I bought a year's membership to Strawberry Banke for $13, which I'm going to donate to the Natick Library for everyone to use. I was able to talk with the lady who runs the auctions, and she's been actually thinking of discontinuing them. I'm miserable...any chance of getting this site out to readers so they'll expand it instead? It goes to fund their scholarship, which they'd also like to get the word out about."*
Thanks Jan, and we recommend that our readers check this Site out! The last time we checked, there was a Niagara Falls getaway for $230, an Arlington, Texas, getaway for $25 and a busload tour of the haunted "Myrtles Plantation" for $125! (NOTE: You might have to choose things local to you, since airfare is not necessarily included. As always, read the auction description carefully so you know what you are getting!)
2) Introducing New Marketing Forum – Great Info!
By David Steiner
We're pleased to announce that we have a new discussion forum devoted to Online Marketing. Jim Crawford, who has written articles for AuctionBytes, will be hosting the forum. Jim is an entrepreneur and Internet Marketing Consultant. His Web site, The Collector's Marketing Resource Center (http://www.crawforddirect.com), provides information about Web site design and marketing for the highly competitive antiques and collecting industry.
Since introducing the forum earlier this week, we've already had a significant amount of posting, including questions about how to start and promote your own Web Site and collecting a mailing list for your business. As online selling becomes more and more competitive, this kind of information will become invaluable! Stop in and join the chat at
