ACME Fest, The Antiques & Collectibles Music Experience Festival, promises to be a unique festival for music lovers and collectors. ACME Fest is the brainstorm of producer Gary Sohmers, owner of Wex Rex, host of talk radio program "Calling All Collectors," and widely known as an appraiser in Pop Culture Collectibles & Toys on the PBS TV program, "Antiques Roadshow."
"I am creating a consumer experience for people that appreciate the finer things in life," said Sohmers. "From quality decor and investments such as art, pottery or furniture to the excitement of acquiring an autograph of a movie, TV and recording star in person. Cap that all off with diverse musical performances by great American performers and you have a festive encounter with culture for the family."
The show is slated for September 14 & 15 at Suffolk Downs Racetrack in Boston, Massachusetts. Three hundred dealers will have booths filled with antiques and collectibles. There will be a Garden Stage with a "Music to Buy Antiques By" with blues, jazz, folk, classical, accapella and other traditional American sounds.
A Main Stage will feature recording artists, including Rick Derringer, The Drifters and Ray Manzarek of The Doors performing with The Soft Parade in a tribute to the 35th Anniversary of the release of "Light My Fire."
The Antiques Festival is being produced by John & Tina Bruno of Flamingo Promotions, the promoters of the New Hampshire and the Vermont Antiques Festival, along with the South Hampton Long Island Antiques Show. John is well known from his television appearances on "Personal FX," and "Treasures In Your Home."
In addition to the music and collectibles, celebrities will be on hand to sign autographs for a fee, including Cindy Williams and actors from the classic George Lucas rock 'n roll Car Movie "American Grafitti" (Paul Le Mat, Debralee Scott and Lynne Stewart, who also played Pee Wee's Miss Yvonne). Many of the musical performers will also be signing autographs including Rick Derringer, Ray Manzarek, Charlie Thomas of the Drifters and Herb Reed of The Platters, in cooperation with Pat Benti and F.A.M.E. (Friends Against Music Exploitation).
Show attendance is expected to reach over 10,000 each day. This is a unique opportunity to participate in the first event of its kind that captures the imagination of the collector. For more information, visit http://www.acmefest.com.
