This & That
1) The AuctionBytes Marketing Contest - Win ''The Perfect Store''!
By Ina Steiner

We are running a contest, and one lucky person will win an autographed copy of Adam Cohen's book, "The Perfect Store: Inside eBay."

Send your ideas on FREE ways for auction sellers to market themselves, and you may win! I will publish a list of the ideas submitted in a future issue of AuctionBytes-Update along with your name (and auction user ID and Web site URL if you choose to include them).

All marketing ideas are welcome, but they must be realistic, useful and cost no money to implement! The person with the best idea(s) as judged by AuctionBytes management (Maggie has the tie vote) will win the book.

Thanks to Adam Cohen and his publisher, Little Brown and Company, for providing the autographed book to AuctionBytes. If you can't wait to read this "inside look" at eBay, you can purchase the book on Amazon at: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0316150487/auctionbytescom.

Send as many ideas as you like (you can include them in one email). Send ideas to: feedback@auctionbytes.com by August 18th for your chance to win.

2) ObjectID: Using Standard Descriptions to Help Combat Art Theft
By Ina Steiner

Object ID is an international standard for describing cultural objects, helpful for combating art theft. The Object ID project was initiated by the J. Paul Getty Trust in 1993, and the standard was launched in 1997. It is being promoted by major law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, Scotland Yard and Interpol; museum, cultural heritage, art trade and art appraisal organisations; and insurance companies.

Having established the descriptive standard, the Object ID project now helps to combat art theft by encouraging use of the standard and by bringing together organizations around the world that can encourage its implementation.

Here's a handy checklist to help you document your valuables, also useful for insurance purposes: http://www.object-id.com/checklist/check_eng.html.

You may quote up to 200 words of any article on the condition that you attribute the article to AuctionBytes.com and either link to the original article or to www.AuctionBytes.com.
