I will freely admit that I'm an HGTV (Home & Garden television) addict. It's very cool seeing other people tackle design projects and home repair, and they also have shows on collectibles. In fact, I'm surprised at how many people tell me they watch it too.
Friday night I caught part of a show called Decorator Derby. "This exciting new series pits two teams of professional designers against one another in a friendly competition to see who can create the most amazing interior - using only flea market finds." http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/shows_hdby
Friday's episode had two teams rummaging around the Pasadena Rose Bowl flea market with $3,000. The show combines everything I love: flea markets shopping, home-decorating, and with a healthy dose of competition with the pressure of a clock ticking down the hours. (How I can get paid to have a TV camera follow me around on my treasure-hunting trips?!)
I've been seeing a lot of eBay commercials on television, and eBay is doing some promotions to bring new users to the site. If only eBay could train them first! I'm afraid it's up to experienced users to enlighten Newbies (that's how many of us figured things out). Let's hope the drive to bring new shoppers to the site will result in increased sales and higher prices, and not an increase in Non-Paying Bidders and customer-service headaches.
As if dealing with orders, inquiries and customer service questions weren't enough, sellers have to deal with unsolicited email as well. In the spirit of "time equals money," we're running a series on Stopping Spam by Izzy Goodman.
Spam filters can wreak their own havoc by preventing legitimate emails from reaching their destination. Web publishers are turning to RSS as a way to deliver their content, without fear of being labeled as Spam.
