Book Review: How to Start & Run an eBay Consignment Business

By Ina Steiner

Skip and Karen McGrath publish manuals on how to sell on eBay. They don't offer "get rich quick" advice (we all know it takes time and hard work), they offer print products, and offer a money-back guarantee. In other words, they publish good stuff and stand behind their products.

"How to Start & Run an eBay Consignment Business" is their latest book, and it's jam-packed with good advice. If you are considering taking your eBay business to the next level and think consignment sales might be the way to go, think of this book as an investment in your business. Skip covers many aspects of running a business that casual sellers may not think of, and he may end up saving you money, time and aggravation.

From organizing your records (and even reminding you to back up your data, something that people don't do often enough!); to finding customers; to marketing, incorporating and finding funding - this book forces the reader to think about important issues. I was pleased to see there were sample contracts and letters in the appendices. And Skip includes a CD with Word documents containing these letters so you don't have to retype them; you can take his and customize them to suit your own business.

How to Start & Run An eBay Consignment Business is bound in a custom three-ring binder and comes with some bonus CDs. One CD contains hundreds of Web site links to valuable resources; it also contains copies of all of the classified ads, sales letters, posters, flyers, legal agreements, and blank forms in Word documents.

The manual also includes a second CD containing a copy of the second edition of AuctionBytes' book, "Snappy Auction Photos: The Online Auction Seller's Guide to Digital Photography."
