Fraud is becoming widespread in the online auction world, and you should think twice before giving private information or User IDs and passwords to any third party.

2) eBay Stores and Search Engine Listings
By Ina Steiner
eBay has a page that explains how to make a file of your listings available for download. "Some sellers set up partnerships with third parties, such as product search engines, to drive traffic to their listings, and need a way to provide their partners with up-to-date information on their listings and their URLs. If you choose to do this, eBay can make a file of information about your Store Inventory listings available for your partners to download. (Information about your Online Auction or Fixed Price listings, which appear in regular eBay searches and categories, will not be included.)"

6) Artfact Announces Improvements to Auction Pricing Database
By Ina Steiner
Artfact, whose database contains records of everything sold by traditional auction houses, announced improved technology and new services. Artfact Annual allows subscribers access to over 250,000 auction records from about 600 auctions over the latest 12 calendar months. Designed for users who are primarily interested in the most current market data, Artfact Annual is available for as little as $7.95 for a one-day subscription with unlimited searches.
Artfact Professional is available for appraisers, dealers, curators and other professionals. Artfact Basic Service allows anyone to search and view upcoming auction catalogs from close to 100 of the most experienced and reliable auction houses in the United States.
Artfact said technological improvements have been made possible by a major new investor, ACK Software LLC, which builds complete software systems that allow auction houses to create, manage, and publish stand-alone auction Web sites without in-house technical expertise.
More information on services and pricing is available on the artfact Web site.

8) eDeposit Announces Lower Fees for Bidder Qualification Service
By Ina Steiner
eDeposit announced lower fees for buyers using its eBay CertifiedBidder product. eBay sellers use CertifiedBidder to require that bidders put aside a deposit before being able to bid on their auctions (usually high-ticket or high-profile items). Winning bidders who don't follow through by paying for winning items forfeit their deposit. Sellers pay eDeposit fees, which remain unchanged. Buyers pay no fee to eDeposit if they fund the deposit using a check or money order. Now if they fund using an online check or via wire transfer, there are also no fees. If they fund using a credit card, the fee is now 2.9% instead of the previous charge of 3.9% plus 50 cents.

9) Faberge Imperial Eggs Go on the Auction Block
By Ina Steiner
Faberge Eggs conjure up both the decadence of 19th and early 20th century royalty and gifted craftsmanship and artistic skill. Malcolm Forbes assembled a collection of these Russian works of art, acquiring his first piece in the mid-1960s. The Forbes family will part with the collection in a Sotheby's auction in New York City on April 20-21, 2004. There will be a public exhibit before the auction.
