This & That: Online Auction Roundup
1) eBay Feedback Forgery
By Ina Steiner
Reminder: AuctionBytes does not endorse the products and services featured in the "This & That" column, which often features new Web sites. (Anyone can set up a Web site.) Fraud is becoming widespread in the online auction world, and you should think twice before giving private information or User IDs and passwords to any third party.
Washington Post's Brian Krebs reported that some sellers were using Javascript to mask their negative feedback on eBay (http://digbig.com/3mpm). A source tells us that eBay now has a script that looks for suspicious Javascript code included in the "Submission stream" of the originator and cancels them. According to our source, this is a temporary measure, and eBay is looking at specific code that masks the counter and feedback algo, and filters them out.
2) AuctionSieve Search Tool for Buyers
By Ina Steiner
AuctionSieve wrote to say they've made a large number of updates to AuctionSieve since it was mentioned in AuctionBytes, including "support for international eBay sites, and numerous enhancements and bug fixes. It's now on all the major download sites like download.com and tucows and it's also on the major macintosh sites like apple.com and macupdate."
