Last week we asked readers, What is the best time to end an auction? The survey results are in, and David summarizes the results in today's issue. One person commented on the influence television shows have on the timing of bids. Well, tonight the final episode of HBO's "S-- and the City" airs, and it's expected to draw a large viewing audience. Perhaps after the show airs, people will run to their computers to look for designer shoes and bags the show's stars are known for flaunting.
Also in today's issue I review two new eBay search tools. They aren't quite "ready for prime time," but that means it's an excellent time for you to make suggestions to the developers. Speaking of search, last week, eBay expanded the Title field to 55 characters, up from 45 characters. Title is the default search, so this gives sellers the ability to add an extra keyword or two to help searchers find their items.
eBay also continues to roll out attributes, or "Item Specifics," into selected categories. On Friday it said it would roll out Item Specifics into Laptops and Desktops for both PC and Apple products in the Computers categories.
In mid-March, eBay will remove all lower level categories in the music category. Now, a seller who currently wants to list the "Matchbox Twenty: More Than You Think You Are" CD might currently list in the following category: Entertainment > Music > CDs > Rock > Alternative. In mid-March, the seller would select the following category: Entertainment > Music > CDs.
Keep an eye out for Item Specifics to be announced for your categories.
Two pieces of news with regards to auction management services surfaced last week. ChannelAdvisor raised prices http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y04/m02/i19/s02 . And on Friday, Accenture announced it will transition its "Connection to eBay" customers to Auctionworks.
