I conducted a workshop about online auctions last weekend at the John Bale Book Company in Waterbury, Connecticut. Edith Reynolds and her husband own the bookshop, and if you read The Bookologist newsletter, you know Edith recently renovated the shop http://www.bookologist.com/cab/abu/y203/m11/bk0015/s02. I was delighted to see it for myself for the first time, and I'm happy to report it's the nicest bookstore I've ever visited.
The workshop went well, we had about 20 people in attendance. Many were beginners wanting to know things like what payment method they should accept, whether they should accept international orders, and what I thought about setting reserve prices on auctions. More experienced attendees volunteered their own opinions, which added greatly to the discussion.
Phillip Davies of TIAS.com was on hand to give a demonstration of digital photography, and Liz from the John Bale Book Company demonstrated techniques in packing items. Andy from Sellers-Market, an eBay drop-off store located in Danbury showed up and said he was inspired to offer workshops of his own at his store.
I had a great time meeting people and thank everyone who took the time to come on a sunny Saturday afternoon! Thanks to Phil and Liz for their expert advice, and for Edith and Dan for opening up their shop to us. I'll see if Edith has any photos to share in her next issue of the Bookologist newsletter.
When you read AuctionBytes newsletters or visit the AuctionBytes Web site, you'll notice that we accept advertisements. Our sponsors allow us to continue to publish without any fees to readers, and we continue to limit advertising to companies that offer online-auction related services.
We have some very interesting services this ad cycle. Besides long-time sponsors such as Craters & Freighters and Vision-One Marketing, we have online-auction sites Bid4Assets and Bidville; eDeposit, a service for pre-qualifying bidders; and ThinkingVoice, a very cool service that allows buyers and sellers to contact each other more easily. We're also very pleased to welcome first-time advertiser Trak Auctions, an auction management service that also enables users to set up their own eCommerce sites, and OfficeMax, who will be bringing special offers to our readers in the forthcoming months. You can check out any of the services by clicking on the links either in their ads or in the sponsor's list at the end of this newsletter. Thanks to all the companies that have supported us by running ads over the past four and a half years.
And thanks to you for reading AuctionBytes!
