This & That: Online Auction Roundup
1) Google AdWords Jumpstart Program
By Ina Steiner
Reminder: AuctionBytes does not endorse the products and services featured in the "This & That" column, which often features new Web sites. (Anyone can set up a Web site.) Fraud is becoming widespread in the online auction world, and you should think twice before giving private information or User IDs and passwords to any third party.

Google introduced a new program for people who need help setting up Google AdWord campaigns. Google AdWords is a marketing tool to drive traffic to your Web site. "If you sign up for AdWords through the Jumpstart program, our specialists will customize a campaign for you based on your unique needs and their extensive experience with AdWords ads. You'll get an expert-level campaign, plus a model to follow for any additional campaigns you create on your own. Our specialists will: Write compelling ads promoting your product or service; Choose relevant keywords to trigger your ads; Set cost-per-click amounts (within your budget) to maximize your ad exposure." You prepay $299, which will be applied to your initial ad clicks that must be used within 6 months. After you've received $299 in clicks, you'll be charged for additional clicks based on the cost per click amounts and budget you select.

2) MeetPoint Helps with Communications
By Ina Steiner
I haven't had time to check this out, but Skybound Software says its newest program, MeetPoint, may prevent negative feedback comments from being left on eBay and other auction sites and reduce or stop email tag. The program links communication software to each of the user's auctions, and then to the user's computer. This enables MeetPoint users to communicate with people visiting their auction pages.

3) Wholesale Prices on eBay Books
By Ina Steiner
Skip McGrath of Auction-Sellers-Resource.com wrote in a recent newsletter that putting on seminars is a great way for experienced PowerSellers to make some extra money, have some fun, and get referrals for a Trading Assistant business. Skip is making his books available at wholesale prices to eBay sellers who put on seminars, with a minimum order of 12 titles. Books include "How to Start and Run an eBay Consignment Business" (a 200-page printed instruction manual) and "Taking Your Retail Business onto eBay." Contact Skip, and tell him Ina and David sent you!

4) eBay Items ''Hitch a Ride'' on Two New Web Sites
By Ina Steiner
In case you missed it in Newsflash, we wrote about two new services that bring "shippers" and "receivers" together. Using the services, people can "hitch a ride" for their purchases, connecting people with shipping needs to people who are already making the trip. And Hitchpack wrote to tell me they offer new registrants $10 as an incentive to try the new service. Read more online:

5) Scammers Targeting Senior Citizens
By Ina Steiner
Washington Post reported Thursday that senior citizens may be increasingly targeted by scammers taking advantage over the new Medicare prescription discount cards (http://digbig.com/4betf). Please spread the word to family and friends to be careful. Don't reveal personal information and don't purchase drug cards from unsolicited phone calls and even letters sent in the mail! If you aren't sure, ask your doctor, pharmacist or call your local police or state attorney general.
