This & That: Online Auction Roundup
1) New Online Marketplace: Surplus.com
By Ina Steiner

Reminder: AuctionBytes does not endorse the products and services featured in the "This & That" column, which often features new Web sites. (Anyone can set up a Web site.) Fraud is becoming widespread in the online auction world, and you should think twice before giving private information or User IDs and passwords to any third party.

Surplus.com is a new online marketplace for surplus and excess inventory. Surplus.com is a privately held corporation headquartered in Mundelein, Illinois. Sellers must register and choose a Silver or Gold membership. Silver members prepay for listings; one listing costs $25, and a package of 25 listings cost $300 ($12 per listing). http://www.surplus.com

2) Lone Star Auctioneers Possible Source of Inventory
By Ina Steiner

They also hold the California State Controller Office Unclaimed Property Auctions for the contents of unclaimed safe deposit boxes and sell lots of surplus and seized vehicles and heavy equipment for the State of Texas, cities and counties in webcast and 24/7 auctions. http://www.lonestarauctioneers.com

3) DOUA and eBay Elite Hold Reception at eBay Live Conference
By Ina Steiner

The Disabled Online Users Association (DOUA) and the eBay Elite have joined forces and will be co-hosting a reception on the opening night of eBay Live. This high energy event will take place on Thursday, the 24th of June, from 8 - 11 pm at the Aquarium of The Americas in New Orleans, Louisiana. The highlight of the evening will be "The eBay Community Celebrity Auction," orchestrated by buySAFE, with all proceeds going to DOUA. Reception attendees can bid to have lunch at a fabulous New Orleans restaurant with their favorite community member on Friday or Saturday during the convention. A few of the community personalities who have volunteered for the celebrity lunches include Ina Steiner (Editor of AuctionBytes), Marsha Collier (Author of eBay for Dummies), Scott Samuel (CEO of Ethical Technologies), Marjie Smith (Executive Director of DOUA), Jeff Grass (President of buySAFE), Scot Wingo (CEO of ChannelAdvisor), and Bill Bogardus (eBay Shooting Star Powerseller). In addition, there will be silent auctions during the event in which guests can bid on a variety of fantastic items donated by eBay Elite members and sponsors. Proceeds from the silent auctions will also benefit the DOUA. Everyone is invited to attend and meet some dynamic people, have a great time, and help support the DOUA. Since attendance is limited to 500 guests, this event promises to be the hottest ticket in town. Contact Marjie (marjie@doua.info) or Shelly (shelly@savz.com) for tickets, silent auction merchandise donations, or sponsorship opportunities.
