By Ina Steiner
Reminder: AuctionBytes does not endorse the products and services featured in the "This & That" column, which often features new Web sites. (Anyone can set up a Web site.) Fraud is becoming widespread in the online auction world, and you should think twice before giving private information or User IDs and passwords to any third party.

5) Sterlingbidz Adds New Feature to Storefront
By Ina Steiner
Sterlingbidz.com reports it has introduced a new feature. In April, Sterlingbidz launched a hybrid storefront service where sellers can offer items with no expiration date until the first bid was placed. After the first bid, the timer starts as a regular auction. The new feature for the hybrid storefront allows bidders to make an opening bid offer to the seller. If the seller accepts the offer, the item goes live and the timer starts. Storefront items currently have about a 30% sale through rate since the program began in April of 2004 and it expects that to double with the new feature. The $1.00 No Reserve section of the site boasts a 99.5% sell-through rate. Sterlingbidz.com was started by Mark and Andrea Hutto in April of 2003 to get away from the high fees of ebay and bidz.com. Originally the site featured about 30-60 items a week. Now the site reports it is getting about 10 times that amount and in excess of 1 million hits a month. Categories include Coins, Stamps, Jewelry, Art, Militaria, Sports & Collectibles
