This & That: Online Auction Roundup
1) eBay Auction Seller's News
By Ina Steiner

Reminder: AuctionBytes does not endorse the products and services featured in the "This & That" column, which often features new Web sites. (Anyone can set up a Web site.) Fraud is becoming widespread in the online auction world, and you should think twice before giving private information or User IDs and passwords to any third party.

Always an interesting read, the November issue of Skip McGrath's newsletter for eBay sellers is now available online. http://www.auction-sellers-resource.com/newsletters/nov-a/

2) Marketing Tips
By Ina Steiner

Phil Davies, President of Tias.com, was a guest speaker at the WCBS Small-Business breakfast held recently in New York. A summary of marketing tips is listed online. http://www.tias.com/biztips/

3) Business or Technical Questions? Ask Dave Taylor!
By Ina Steiner

Computer expert and writer Dave Taylor set up a site to answer emails about many topics to do with business, technical and writing issues. Taylor wrote one of the first books about online auctions and founded an online auction search site in 1999. You can go to his site, AskDaveTaylor.com, and submit questions about online auctions, marketing, affiliate advertising and technical issues. There's no charge. (We'll be profiling Dave in the next issue of AuctionBytes-Update as part of our Industry Profiles series.) http://www.askdavetaylor.com

4) How Much Do You Make Selling on eBay?
By Ina Steiner

As always, our forums contain some terrific discussions on how to improve one's sales. Here's a thread called, "Selling on eBay-Cost Analysis" that helps sellers think about analyzing their bottom line. Feel free to jump into the conversation if you have anything to add or have questions. (And no, you don't have to reveal how much you make on eBay!) http://www.auctionbytes.com/forum/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=12130

5) USPS Introduces Flat-Rate Priority Mail Box
By Ina Steiner

The U.S. Postal Service will soon provide customers with more shipping options just in time for the holiday mailing season. Using Priority Mail Flat Rate Boxes, customers will be able to mail packages - regardless of the parcels' weight or destination - for just $7.70 each. http://www.usps.com/communications/news/press/2004/pr04_072.htm

6) Recycle Your Old Cell Phones
By Ina Steiner

Staples customers can easily recycle their old cell phones, PDAs and pagers every day while shopping at their local Staples store. Staples works with CollectiveGood, a mobile electronics recycling company, to reduce the amount of electronic products normally discarded into the waste stream. Ask your local office-supply or computer store if they offer the same service.
