This & That: Online Auction Roundup
1) Tip from the Publicity Hound
By Ina Steiner

Reminder: AuctionBytes does not endorse the products and services featured in the "This & That" column, which often features new Web sites. (Anyone can set up a Web site.) Fraud has become widespread in the online auction world, and you should think twice before giving private information or User IDs and passwords to any third party.

If you are trying to get a reporter interested in writing a profile of your eBay business, you can borrow a tip given to retailers. "Opening a new pizza shop? Invite a reporter to your shop so you can teach her how to make a pizza? Tell her you'll even show her how to twirl the dough around, then throw it up in the air and catch it..... reporters who are involved in stories become excited about the story. And excited reporters seldom write dull stories."

This tip comes from Joan Stewart, publisher of "The Publicity Hound" subscription newsletter and "The Publicity Hound's Tips of the Week," a free ezine featuring tips, tricks and tools for generating free publicity.

You can apply this tip to your eBay business by contacting a reporter who writes about local businesses, and offering to show them how to sell one of their items on eBay so they can write it up for a column. It can be a television or newspaper reporter, but let them have the exclusive, and be respectful of their time when you approach them.

You can get publicity tips by signing up for Joan's email newsletter, and you'll receive an email with "89 Reasons to Send a News Release." http://www.PublicityHound.com
