This & That: Online Auction Roundup
1) USPS Shipping Labels With Customs Forms Now Online
By Ina Steiner

Reminder: AuctionBytes does not endorse the products and services featured in the "This & That" column, which often features new Web sites. (Anyone can set up a Web site.) Fraud has become widespread in the online auction world, and you should think twice before giving private information or User IDs and passwords to any third party.

********

Beginning November 2, 2005, the U.S. Postal Service will offer customers the ability to pay postage and print Global Priority Mail (GPM) and Global Airmail Parcel Post (GAPP) labels online through the Click-N-Ship Web site at usps.com/clicknship. http://www.usps.com/cpim/ftp/bulletin/2005/html/pb22166/kit_txt_001.html

2) Window Book Shipping Software New Release
By Ina Steiner

Window Book announced the fall 2005 release of its shipping software, Postal Package Partner (PPP). The new version of PPP has been updated and includes four new features: secure access control management, additional consolidator support, Priority Mail drop ship data import, and improved export control. Window Book software is geared to mid- to high-volume shippers (a rough rule of thumb is 35 packages/week). http://www.windowbook.com

3) UK Auction Site CQout Profiled in eBuyer
By Ina Steiner

The UK auction site CQout was profiled in the recent issue of eBuyer magazine in an article called, "Is this the next eBay: Snap up a bargain with the superb CQout." CQout has put a PDF version of the article on its website. NOTE: this is a link to a PDF file. http://www.cqout.co.uk/press/CQout%20eBuyer%20article%20Nov%2005.pdf

4) Selling Tools for Mining Amazon
By Ina Steiner

Greg Holden wrote about tools for sellers on Amazon last week (http://auctionbytes.com/cab/abu/y205/m10/abu0153/s02) He was told about three other tools that might be of interest to readers.

5) eBay Pixel Advertising
By Ina Steiner

"eBay Pixel Page, www.ebaypixelpage.com, is the eBay Search Engine Alternative offering Per Pixel Advertising for eBay Sellers and related businesses for only 20 cents per pixel, or $20 per 10x10 pixel block." I've never heard of Pixel Advertising, and I don't know if it works. I think you have to see this site to understand it. http://www.ebaypixelpage.com

6) BiddingBuddies
By Ina Steiner

"BiddingBuddies is the only social network exclusively for eBay members." http://www.biddingbuddies.com

7) eBay Seller Blogs
By Ina Steiner

I like to point to interesting online-auction blogs, here are two:

8) aytozon - Comparison shop across Amazon and eBay
By Ina Steiner

You can see search results from Amazon and eBay side-by-side on aytozon.com. I did a search for McCoy Vase, one item came up, I did another search for Little Mermaid, and plenty of items came up. Personally I'd rather search the two sites separately. Here's what Amazon's blog had to say: http://aws.typepad.com/aws/2005/10/aytozon_compari.html

9) Former PayPal Exec Runs Video Contest
By Ina Steiner

Simply Fired is launching an online video contest entitled, "Get Fired, Get Filmed, Get Famous" in conjunction with YouTube. The contest challenges anyone to submit a short video about getting fired. Simply Fired is a sister site of Simply Hired, a search engine for jobs cofounded by former PayPal employee Dave McClure and the new home of "PayPal Damon" from the PayPal boards. http://www.simplyfired.com

10) O'Reilly Podcasts for Geeks
By Ina Steiner

If you like being up on leading-edge technology, tune into O'Reilly's podcasts. Includes interviews with CEOs of high-tech companies. http://www.oreillynet.com/future
