This & That: Online Auction Roundup
1) The Online Safety Toolkit
By Ina Steiner

Reminder: AuctionBytes does not endorse the products and services featured in the "This & That" column, which often features new Web sites. (Anyone can set up a Web site.) Fraud has become widespread in the online auction world, and you should think twice before giving private information or User IDs and passwords to any third party.

The BC Rural Women's Network has created a toolkit for safe Internet usage: "The Online Safety Toolkit: Staying Safe and Informed when Going Online is meant to assist rural women, and Internet users generally, to be smart, be safe, but not be left behind. The Internet can be an amazing tool to network with other women, to learn about resources available to us through out the world, to share our knowledge with others. These pages attempt to begin the process of acquiring knowledge to be safe in the online community." (Thanks to the BHIC blog http://medlib.med.utah.edu/blogs/BHIC for this link.)

2) Germany Site for Auction Users
By Ina Steiner

Thanks to Henning in Germany for telling me about this German-language site for online auction users run by Axel Gronen, who tells me they have a newsletter, a "curious auctions" section (http://www.wortfilter.de/kurios.html), and no-cost tools. http://www.wortfilter.de

3) Frank's Compulsive Guide to Postal Addresses
By Ina Steiner

Thanks to Beth who recommends checking out a site called Frank's Compulsive Guide to Postal Addresses. "It has about every country you could want, and explains in great detail what each part of the foreign mailing addresses stand for." http://www.columbia.edu/kermit/postal.html

4) Virtual Feedback Survey
By Ina Steiner

Virtual Feedback is conducting a survey. Virtual Feedback is a third-party provider hosting feedback for individuals and businesses that are interested in learning more about their customers likes and dislikes of their product or service. http://www.virtualfeedback.com/?page=view_form&id=101

5) EchoSign Service for Automating Contract Signatures
By Ina Steiner

EchoSign is a new service that automates the process of getting documents signed, distributed and filed. Users email out terms of sale or other paperwork through EchoSign, and EchoSign automatically makes sure it gets signed (by fax or e-signature), and that copies are sent to all parties. It also stores a copy of the document. CEO Jason M. Lemkin said the company has over 2,000 individuals and businesses using the service, some of whom are online sellers. "It might be as simple as agreeing to a standard refund / satisfaction policy in the case of jewelry; or in the case of merchants who uses eBay as an extension of an existing online store, a way to get them to agree to the T&Cs they would have agreed to if they'd purchased directly via the online store rather than eBay." There is no charge for using the service. http://www.echosign.com/public/static/howItWorks.jsp

6) Receller Affiliate Program
By Ina Steiner

Receller pays five dollars for every customer referred who submits a paid listing with Receller. See details on its website. http://digbig.com/4gtjc
