This & That: Online Auction Roundup
1) Newsletter on Kitchen Collectibles
By Ina Steiner

Reminder: AuctionBytes does not endorse the products and services featured in the "This & That" column, which often features new Web sites. (Anyone can set up a Web site.) Fraud has become widespread in the online auction world, and you should think twice before giving private information or User IDs and passwords to any third party.

By Ina Steiner

4) Rapleaf Reputation Service
By Ina Steiner

Rapleaf is a new "commerce ratings system" from Auren Hoffman (http://summation.typepad.com/about.html). Hoffman says Rapleaf is primarily focused on rating people, not on rating businesses, and he says his focus is not on eBay transactions. In fact, the TechCrunch blog posted last week that, "eBay appears to be selectively removing listings from sellers who point to their Rapleaf reputation profiles" (http://www.techcrunch.com/2006/05/17/ebay-bans-rapleaf-links). eBay discovered years ago the value of a transaction-based rating system versus a system where anyone could rate anyone else at any time, which can lead to bogus ratings. Rapleaf is working with Opinity. It will be interesting to see how Rapleaf evolves. http://www.rapleaf.com
