This & That: Online Auction Roundup
1) eBay Community Helps with Mumbai Tragedy
By Ina Steiner

Reminder: AuctionBytes does not endorse the products and services featured in the "This & That" column, which often features new Web sites. (Anyone can set up a Web site.) Fraud has become widespread in the online auction world, and you should think twice before giving private information or User IDs and passwords to any third party.

An employee has been blogging on eBay's Chatter newsletter about the devastating terrorism attack in India and how the eBay community can help. http://ebaychatter.typepad.com/the_chatter/2006/07/mumbai_blasts_e.html

2) Follow-Up to Last Week's Shipping Article
By Ina Steiner

Whenever we write about shipping issues, we get a lot of feedback from readers, since shipping is a crucial part of online selling. Last week's article was no exception (http://auctionbytes.com/cab/abu/y206/m07/abu0170/s04).

Some readers felt it was not clear from reading the article that users cannot print first-class or media-mail labels through USPS Click and Ship, which was explained in Note "D" at the bottom of the chart. Based on that feedback, I added a note to the chart under USPS Monthly Fee, "No first-class or media-mail, see note D below for other restrictions."

Other readers pointed out that PayPal's service does provide the ability to print First Class postage. According to the PayPal FAQs, the types of mail service you can use with PayPal Shipping are: Express Mail, Priority Mail, First-Class Mail Parcel, Parcel Post service, and Media Mail, and for shipping internationally, Global Express Mail, Global Priority Mail, and Global Airmail Parcel Post (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/ship/center-outside).

3) BidPay Is Back
By Ina Steiner

Izzy Goodman, who has tracked and written about online payment services for forever, it seems, has a blurb about the new BidPay service - scroll toward the bottom of the page to read it. http://ccs-digital.com/payments.asp

You may quote up to 200 words of any article on the condition that you attribute the article to AuctionBytes.com and either link to the original article or to www.AuctionBytes.com.
All other use is prohibited.
