This & That: Online Auction Roundup
1) Wiw2u.com Resource Database for Antiques & Collectibles
By Ina Steiner

Reminder: AuctionBytes-Update does not endorse the products and services featured in the "This & That" column, which often features new Web sites. (Anyone can set up a Web site.) Fraud has become widespread in the online auction world, and you should think twice before giving private information or User IDs and passwords to any third party.

WhatsItWorthToYou.com is building an online database directory of antiques and collectible related resources and is inviting industry players to add themselves. "We are building the largest and most comprehensive resource directory with extremely dynamic search capabilities. If you have any involvement at all in any aspect of the antiques and collectibles trade, you will want to make sure that your information is listed in our database." The sign-up page to create a free listing is located at: http://www.wiw2u.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=resources.listing

2) RSS for Holiday Shopping
By Ina Steiner

I've long been a proponent of RSS for content and ecommerce - here's an article I wrote two years ago about Bloglines, a tool that helps me organize and read RSS feeds (http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abu/y204/m08/abu0124/s04). Since then, eBay has jumped on the RSS bandwagon (http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y06/m03/i22/s01). Last week, Frank Barnako of MarketWatch wrote an article, "Holiday shopping with RSS" on how RSS can help you with holiday shopping by alerting you when there's a bargain - it's worth a read. http://digbig.com/4nqby

3) Best of eBay Radio CD
By Ina Steiner

The wsRadio Network will soon offer "The Best of eBay Radio CD set" pulling from nearly 4 years of eBay Radio Audio Archives. eBay Radio is hosted by Jim "Griff" Griffith, and the CD will include content from advertisers. Topics include Buying Tips, Digital Photography Tips and Product Sourcing Segments with Chris Malta and Guests. The CD set will be sold in the wsRadio eBay Store. In addition, the CD will include discounts from current eBay Radio advertisers in the form of coupons or special offers. http://digbig.com/4npjj

4) Microsoft Live Products for Ecommerce
By Ina Steiner

Lissa McGrath wrote up a nice piece on Microsoft's Windows Live Expo, which is a classifieds service ("Microsoft Classifieds May Open Windows for eBay & Online Sellers" http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abu/y206/m10/abu0176/s02). As she points out, Windows Live Expo is one of the three new "Live" sites launched by Microsoft recently. The other two are Windows Live Shopping and Windows Live. I find the slew of offerings from Microsoft that all use the word "Live" in their titles confusing - here's another one: Microsoft Office Live. This offering is also useful to small businesses. If you want to know what Office Live is, David Pogue of the New York Times does a nice job explaining it in, "State of the Art: A Web Site to Call Your Own" (free registration may be required.) http://www.nytimes.com/2006/11/02/technology/02pogue.html

5) Yahoo Search Marketing Rolls Out New System
By Ina Steiner

Here's something for online sellers who use paid-search advertising. Yahoo Search Marketing is introducing a completely redesigned system and has begun inviting U.S. advertisers to upgrade their accounts - invitations are being sent in stages to U.S. advertisers over the remainder of the year and early next year. However, you can request an early upgrade of your account by completing and submitting a form. Yahoo said new features include better testing, geo-targeting and scheduling functionality. http://searchmarketing.yahoo.com/upgrade.php

6) Postlets for Classifieds
By Ina Steiner

We've written about vFlyer for launching listings to multiple classifieds sites - here's a service that says it's been around longer: Postlets. It supplies feeds to sites like Google Base, Oodle, Edgeio, Vast, Trulia, HotPads and Propsmart. "We have been providing HTML to copy/paste into sites like craigslist, LiveDeal, backpage.com since the beginning as well, complete with a "post to craigslist" feature which posts to craigslist with a couple clicks." It is also a destination site and hosts live listings for visitors to browse through. They are adding functionality and cater to real-estate listings. http://www.postlets.com

You may quote up to 200 words of any article on the condition that you attribute the article to AuctionBytes.com and either link to the original article or to www.AuctionBytes.com.
