Do you remember the first item you ever sold online? Let us know by sending an email to ina@auctionbytes.com and we may publish your story. Today we hear from two eBay sellers, Franci and Foob!

Hi Ina, The first item I sold was in June 2000 and it was a small (6 X 8) hardback book about chrysanthemums.....it featured a black and white photo of each variety and complete information about each one, history, character, colors, care and use in the garden. It was published in about 1952.

The buyer was a woman in upstate New York who was in charge of a museum and garden dedicated to the writer of the book and it became a part of the permanent collection as it was the first and only one that were able to find. It's still there. Franci

****

Hi; I found a "thingie" on the street: it had four buttons on it and with further research turned up to be a radio key for a Saab 9-3 missing its fob.

I figured it would be a good time to try auctioning on eBay. I've bought 19 things so far, and wanted to see what it was like.

After spending a bit to figure out where it should go (i opted for "odd things" instead of the automotive section), I filled out the web pages and set my price at $.99. I guess I wrote a good description: 60-70 people "stopped by" for a look, but only one took a nibble - for $.99!

I also got to use that counter from another online company that partners with eBay, so I had some info on how the auction was going. I'm looking around my apartment for auction #2. Foob
