Auctionbytes-Update, Number 186 - March 04, 2007 - ISSN 1528-6703

This & That: Online Auction Roundup
1) An Ecommerce Art Site: Imagekind.com
By Ina Steiner

Reminder: AuctionBytes-Update does not endorse the products and services featured in the "This & That" column, which often features new Web sites. (Anyone can set up a Web site.) Fraud has become widespread in the online auction world, and you should think twice before giving private information or User IDs and passwords to any third party.

********

Original artists can sell art prints and framed art to anyone, anywhere in the world while Imagekind handles production, shipping and commissions. Imagekind's goal is to develop a new online art experience that provides both consumers and professional artists a new outlet for sharing, creating and buying actual wall art produced from digital files. Imagekind is often described as a cross between a virtual art gallery, a photo-sharing service and a print-on-demand service. http://www.imagekind.com

2) eBay Market Data for Collectors
By Ina Steiner

AuctionArchive.info lets users follow the values of their collectibles by looking up historical eBay auction information up to 90 days after the end of any successful auction. Information includes the volume and high/low/average values of the selected collectibles. Founder David Polis said, "the market I am really after are people who already own the collectibles and would love to see this or that collectible goes up or down in value. Is it worth more now, or less? Basically, the same as watching stock." The fee is $30 for a 1-year subscription that includes 100 searches; subscribers can buy 100 searches at a time for $20. http://www.auctionarchive.info

3) BooksPrice.com Offers RSS for Comparison Searching
By Ina Steiner

BooksPrice.com is a self-financed start-up that offers price-comparison services. BooksPrice offered a way to compare the complete content of a cart (including books, dvds, cds and video games). Customizable RSS feeds enable users to track the price of a specific book, DVD, CD or a video game using RSS feeds on any RSS reader - for example, from their own personalized portals and home pages (in sites like Google, Yahoo, NetVibes and others). The feeds can be customizable by shipping location, currency, and filtering on new or used items. http://www.booksprice.com

4) eBay Stores Sweepstakes
By Ina Steiner

eBay is running a new "eBay Stores $2,500 Feature Passport" Sweepstakes. Every other month, eBay will highlight an eBay Stores feature available to sellers. All Stores sellers who use the selected tool at least once during the specified timeframe will be automatically eligible to win $2,500. This month, sellers who use the Email Marketing feature between March 1 and March 31, 2007, will automatically be entered into the sweepstakes for a chance to receive $2,500. http://www2.ebay.com/aw/core/200703020930192.html

5) GrandCentral Phone Service
By Ina Steiner

GrandCentral has a new feature that lets folks add a button to their web site that places a call connecting the caller to the site's phones or voicemail while maintaining privacy on both ends (neither ever sees the other's phone number). http://www.grandcentral.com

6) Bright Builders Listing Tool
By Ina Steiner

We had covered news of Bright Builders' new eBay listing tool in last month's Newsflash newsletter: http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y07/m02/i22/s02 Here's an update from Bright Builders: "The Bright Lister is only available to our clients who have purchased a Bright Builders' package. These packages are sold solely through resellers. However, if someone really wants it separately, they can e-mail experts@brightbuilders.com. The Bright Lister was designed mostly for novice eBay sellers, as well as sellers wanting to make themed listings."

7) Google Gadget for eBay Sellers
By Ina Steiner

AuctionContact has developed a tool that enables eBay sellers to create their own Google Homepage Gadget that lists their auctions in a scrollable list. On top of that gadget users can see their watch, bid, and sell lists. This gadget can be also embedded on any web page (for example, if sellers want to display their auctions on their web pages). There is no charge for using the tool. Here is the link where you can see an example and where sellers can get code for their own gadget: http://www.ctxbay.com/seller.htm
