Reading AuctionBytes: From the Editor
eBay rolled out its new feedback system the week of March 5th to the UK and Ireland, Australia, Belgium, France, India, Italy and Poland (http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y07/m03/i07/s01 ). You can see your eBay User ID displayed with the new Feedback 2.0 - even if you are in the U.S. or one of the other sites where it hasn't yet rolled out - by going to one of those sites (such as http://www.ebay.co.uk ) and searching for your ID, then clicking through to the feedback page.
Once the system rolled out and people could see exactly how the new system displayed information, people became concerned over privacy issues (http://digbig.com/4rwyy ). While you could always click through and see what someone bought or sold, buyers in particular are concerned about the snapshot view that shows what they purchased and at what price.
I think a number of people will actually request that trading partners do not leave feedback for them as a result of the new system. Less feedback on eBay is not a good thing!
As promised, we published the results of our Feedback 2.0 survey on March 9th (the survey was conducted before the system actually rolled out):
http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y07/m03/i07/s01
AuctionBytes also conducted another survey recently, and we're publishing the results in today's issue (http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abu/y207/m03/abu0187/s02 ). This is a 6-month follow-up to the one conducted in September 2006 to try and measure where readers were selling and where they were intending to sell 6 months out. Thanks to readers who took the time to participate.
Finally, I wanted to mention that one of our freelancer writers, Michael A. Banks, is having runaway success with his book, "Crosley: Two Brothers and a Business Empire That Transformed a Nation," co-authored by Michael, Rusty McClure and David Stern. Publisher's Weekly wrote an nice piece on it last month (http://www.publishersweekly.com/article/CA6415358.html ).
Thanks for reading.
