Do you remember the first item you ever sold online? Let us know by sending an email to ina@auctionbytes.com and we may publish your story. Today we hear from Deb, who turned a tenant's unpaid bills into eBay cash.
Hello.
I joined eBay back in July 1999. And a few months later, I sold a Mont Blanc pen refill as my first sale. I'd evicted a tenant who hadn't paid rent for a few months. And when I went in with the sheriff, there was a lot of stuff there. I found receipts for a lot of new audio equipment, and a lot of canned goods.
But the Mont Blanc pen refill was something I thought I could sell: it was pretty standard, and I could describe it without a picture (since I didn't know boo about digital cameras then). So I listed it on eBay, thinking that any return at all would be better than $0.
It got me hooked. But I spent the entire time thinking "this guy can afford Mont Blanc pens, but he can't pay his rent?!?"
Deb
PS: My best memory (of the selling price) is $8. Definitely less than $10.
