By Ina Steiner

Reminder: AuctionBytes-Update does not endorse the products and services featured in the "This & That" column, which often features new Web sites. (Anyone can set up a Web site.) Fraud has become widespread in the online auction world, and you should think twice before giving private information or User IDs and passwords to any third party.

iTaggit helps people collect and organize their personal items and collections and now provides TIAS members with an inventory management system with research, valuation, and networking tools to help them streamline the buying and selling process."iTaggit's dynamic system will help merchants and shoppers alike by creating synergy between buying, selling, and collecting." iTaggit also provides links for online appraisals and insurance.

2) Innovative Shipping Box
By Ina Steiner

Some Amazon.com sellers were discussing a new product from the Packaging Control Corporation called the Multi-D (http://www.amazonsellercommunity.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=143845&tstart=0). It generated an interesting discussion worth reading if you care about packaging materials. http://www.multi-d.net

3) Glassies Fight eBay on Item Specifics - Again
By Ina Steiner

eBay has put Item Specifics back in the glass category on eBay, and some sellers are furious. They say they fought eBay in 2004 on this issue and got a promise from eBay executive Michael Dearing that eBay would leave Item Specifics out of the category and not rollup subcategories. While sellers can choose not to use Item Specifics, their items could be disadvantaged in certain searches on eBay. Wrote one seller on the boards, "If we don't use (Item Specifics), we will be punished when they bring out the new "Ebay buyers are too dumb to find anything" Searches." eBay responded on the board and said it does not have any current plans to roll up the category structure in Pottery & Glass. "Moreover for 2007, the only buy side feature associated with Custom Item Specifics is the indexing of custom item specifics in description search."
