This & That: Online Auction Roundup
1) Reminder: Expanded Seller Protection
By Ina Steiner

Reminder: AuctionBytes-Update does not endorse the products and services featured in the "This & That" column, which often features new Web sites. (Anyone can set up a Web site.) Fraud has become widespread in the online auction world, and you should think twice before giving private information or User IDs and passwords to any third party.

********

PowerSellers must sign up for eBay's Expanded Seller Protection plan. Use the following link for program information, but as always, open a new browser window to log-in to PayPal ("never click on a link to log in to any service").

2) Searching Blogs and Discussion Boards
By Ina Steiner

Steve Lindhorst posted an interesting tip on his blog on how to search eBay's discussion board:
http://genuineseller.com/searching-ebay-discussion-groups-with-google

You can use this technique to search blogs too. For example, Go to Google.com and enter the term:
site:blog.auctionbytes.com "ebay invoices"
It will bring back all the AuctionBytes Blog posts that contain the term, eBay invoices.

Note that you can also scroll recent AuctionBytes Blog headlines by scrolling down on the Blog site until you see "Archives" in the right column, then click on a month, and you'll see a nice index of all blog posts from that month. http://blog.auctionbytes.com

3) Free Email Newsletter for Appraisers
By Ina Steiner

Appraisers can sign up for a free email newsletter called "ACA Appraiser's Update." Primarily directed at appraisers, the eNewsletter is also useful to those who have a tangential interest in the profession such as estate liquidators, auctioneers, dealers, claims adjusters, attorneys, etc. Published by Appraisal Course Associates, a partnership between Dave Maloney and Bill Novotny.

5) New Industry Blogs from eBay and Alibaba
By Ina Steiner

Auction sites eBay and Alibaba both launched new blogs last week. Richard Brewer-Hay is writing eBay Ink (http://ebayinkblog.com), and Cliff Hsia is writing AliBlog (http://www.aliblog.alibaba.com).

You may quote up to 200 words of any article on the condition that you attribute the article to AuctionBytes.com and either link to the original article or to www.AuctionBytes.com.
All other use is prohibited.
