This & That: Online Auction Roundup
1) Price Tweet Delivers eBay Alerts via Twitter
By Ina Steiner

Reminder: AuctionBytes-Update does not endorse the products and services featured in the "This & That" column, which often features new Web sites. (Anyone can set up a Web site.) Fraud has become widespread in the online auction world, and you should think twice before giving private information or User IDs and passwords to any third party.

********

Price Tweet from Go Global Gadgets is an alerting tool for Twitter subscribers. eBay sellers insert code into their listings, then the tool lets bidders subscribe to the auction. When bidding on an eBay auction they are watching increases, it sends the bidder an alert via Twitter. The company has several other eBay tools and offers Universal Search Tabs for iGoogle pages.

2) eBay Changes Affiliate Program Compensation
By Ina Steiner

eBay will now compensate its affiliates for driving new users to the site based on the users' "expected lifetime value" as opposed to strictly by the quantity of new users they drive to eBay.

3) eBay View Item Page to Keep Flex Design
By Ina Steiner

eBay told developers it would not limit the View Item page to 710 pixels as it had announced in June. eBay will instead keep the existing "flex" design so developers and sellers can make their templates as wide as they want, and the page will resize to fit. eBay offered users some best practices to follow in order to make pages seen properly by users. Due to a security feature eBay is implementing called domain split, eBay recommends developers include a specific pixel width and height to the description/templates, instead of just setting them to 100%.
