There's a lot of news this week about online auction sites and ecommerce marketplaces, here's a roundup from recent issues of the AuctionBytes Newsflash newsletter.
Amazon.com announced on Wednesday that it has reached an agreement to acquire Zappos.com, an online seller of apparel and footwear, in a stock deal equal to approximately $847 million. (Link) Amazon.com also launched launching new resources for textbook sellers with tips and best practices. (Link)
Atomic Mall launched a new feature so that storeowners can perform edit functions directly from a product view page, Bonanzle updated its widget collection and launched a search widget in beta, and Etsy launched "related searches" functionality on its search engine, a feature designed to help shoppers narrow their search results with more specific searches. (Link). Etsy also hired SEOmoz, a well-known search engine optimization consulting firm. (Link)
Enable Holdings added a new Automotive category to its online auction platform uBid.com, powered by Zag.com, and Kelley Blue Book launched The Trusted Marketplace, a new online car-shopping experience utilizing Vast. (Link)
GunBroker.com, the largest online auction for firearms and hunting/shooting accessories, launched a mobile site (Link), and Oztion is extending the duration of BuyNow Only listings from a maximum of 28 days to a maximum of 60 days. (Link)
