Everyone loves a winner. And the winners are usually pretty happy, too.

AuctionBytes caught up with a few of the Star Developer Awards winners, announced Monday at eBay's Developers' Conference, to get their impressions and find out more about these products that were found to be worthy by the panels of judges.

eBay for the Wii: Scendix Jaasc
"We were completely surprised," to win the award, said Christoph Buenger of Scendix, winner of the Most Innovative application award for its Jaasc Wii application for eBay.

Why does he think this app was named the "most innovative"? "It was this area to go in for eBay - they have the desktop; the mobile, and now the living room," said Buenger. "Everybody has wi-fi, the Wii has wi-fi, so it's a great combination. It's so easy to use."

Bidding is one of the best features on the eBay Wii app, said Buenger. "It's different than on the eBay platform," he said. "You have live countdown, live winning bidder update.." It also allows you to have multiple logins for multiple sites, not just eBay.com, but international eBay sites as well. (Buenger, himself, is a native of Hamburg, Germany, and has recently bid on mp3 and mp4 players).

To get the free Jaasc app, you can download it from the Scendix site at http://www.scendix.com. You'll need to set it up an initial time to work with your Wii browser.

Automating the Post-Checkout: ShipRush
It isn't hard to figure out why a shipping-related company won the "DSL RockStar" award, given how sensitive eBay buyers are to those issues. ShipRush Product Manager Rafael Zimberoff said, "We were thrilled" to get the honor. (ShipRush is part of ZFirm, LLC, at http://www.zfirm.com).

"We're the turbo-lister of the post-sale," explained Zimberoff. "We're about automating what happens after the checkout."

He stressed that one of the unique aspects of ShipRush is that it's free - it's paid for by the carriers, who in turn pay ShipRush an undisclosed sum. He also emphasized that it's fully supported - it offers phone support, for example.

Among the product's features: it handles tracking numbers, notification emails, and shipping labels; and integrates into accounting software. Zimberoff said he thinks ShipRush's most important features are that there is no import/export to deal with, and no cut and paste.

Manage Events and Sell Tickets with Eventbrite
"Having recognition from a company like PayPal is one of the best things we can be honored with," said eventbrite director of Engineering Rafael Orozco about winning the "PayPal Most Innovative Application" Award.

Formerly called zoom.com, they are the largest self-service, event management site. Any organization can publish events online using the application. Another way Orozco describes it as something "between evite and ticketmaster."

It works for "all types of events." One of the high-profile events it is hosting in the near future is a TechCrunch conference in San Francisco.

Orozco says what he likes most about the application is its ease of use...it's "all on one page." "If you're publishing a free event, we don't charge, and a paid event has a 2.5% commission on ticket sales." You can also publish the event into sites such as Google Base, Oodle, etc.
