PayPal Australia Embroiled in Aftermath of Seller Collapse
By Ina Steiner AuctionBytes.com September 02, 2008
eBay announced last month that customers who had been directly impacted by the recent collapse of a seller doing business on eBay Australia as eBusiness_Supplies and running the website at www.bestbargains.com.au had all been credited by PayPal to either their PayPal account or credit card. But an article in Tuesday's AustralianIT said many victims have reported not being paid.
Reporter Fran Foo wrote that "PayPal Australia has been accused of reneging on a public commitment to repay all customers affected by the collapse of a major eBay seller."
According to Robert Vandermeer, a spokesperson for the victims, PayPal is requiring some victims to download and complete a statutory declaration to be considered for a payment from PayPal. However, Vandermeer says the form requires victims to waive their rights to any further or other claim before PayPal makes any offer of a refund.
eBay's August 21st announcement said customers with further queries should contact PayPal Customer Solutions at 1-800-073-263 during the hours of 08:00-18:30 (AEST) Monday-Thursday and 08:00-16:00 (AEST) Friday-Saturday.
