Infopia laid off 12 people on Monday, leaving them with 50 employees. President and CEO Bjorn Espenes said the move came at a time when, due to the economy, "everyone is being a little cautious." eBay had also announced layoffs on Monday impacting 10 percent of its workforce.
The layoffs were designed to trim the company's cash burn and move up its profitability timeline, according to Espenes. No one from Development or Product team were let go, and he said there would be minimum impact on customers. He added that he was hopeful that most of workers affected would be placed before the end of the month.
Espenes said the company was keeping its long term strategic component in place, and the company also announced this week that it added over 100 new customers who switched to the Infopia Transact eCommerce platform from competitive solutions, and extended its Storefront functionality. The two new solutions are tightly integrated with Infopia Storefronts, part of the Infopia Transact eCommerce growth platform.
An advanced search offering enhances the buying experience with intelligent search functions, such as refinements, fuzzy match and spell correction, and "Did you mean?" suggestions. And new product review capabilities enable shoppers to narrow product choices by pros or cons, evaluate "at a glance" summaries, and look at reviews by previous customers "just like you." Infopia partnered with Nextopia and PowerReviews to deliver the solutions.
