The Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies is writing to Internet sites like eBay and Craigslist asking them not to sell scalped inauguration tickets. The 240,000 available tickets are supposed to be free to the public and distributed through congressional offices. eBay spokesperson Nichola Sharpe told the Associated Press that eBay was in discussions with the committee but couldn't comment until an outcome was reached.
Barack Obama will be sworn in as United States President on January 20, 2009. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, officials said the crowd could surpass the 1.2 million who attended President Lyndon Johnson's inauguration in 1965.
The inaugural committee Web site advised members of the public wishing to attend to contact their members of Congress or U.S. Senator and ask to be put on the list for tickets.
