Amazon completed its acquisition of AbeBooks, a deal that was announced in August. AbeBooks is an online marketplace for books, with over 110 million primarily used, rare and out-of-print books listed for sale by thousands of independent booksellers from around the world. It also owns complementary book-selling and book-shopping properties.
AbeBooks will continue to function as a stand-alone operation based in Victoria, British Columbia and will maintain all of its websites, which include Abebooks.com, Abebooks.ca, Abebooks.co.uk, Abebooks.de, Abebooks.fr, Abebooks.it and Iberlibro.com.
Amazon told its third-party sellers in an announcement board post, "We expect AbeBooks to help us expand the selection of books we offer to our customers, especially used, rare and out-of-print titles."
AbeBooks sellers who also list on Amazon.com should continue to manage their business just as they do today, according to the announcement. "There are a lot of opportunities as a result of this acquisition, but it is too early to go into specifics."
Meanwhile, Abebooks told its community, "We expect this change to allow AbeBooks and Amazon to expand their offerings and introduce new features and services to enhance the book buying and selling experience."
