Etsy officially launched the Etsy Developer Community and API, reporting that more than 80 software developers had participated in the beta version first announced last month.
The Etsy API allows developers access to the code for such actions as searching product listings and viewing members' favorite ("hearted") items.
Two developers, Joseph Hinson and Tim Grahl, built Makerspot to allow Etsy sellers to syndicate their products on their own websites. With Makerspot, Etsy shops are built right in, and items, profiles and favorites update automatically. Sellers can use their own domain name and choose from dozens of customizable designs.
Ian Malpass runs the EtsyHacks website and has built three applications using the Etsy API. The Shop Value tool calculates the total value of currently-for-sale listings and other statistics. The Where Am I? tool looks for a particular shop in a set of search results and indicates on which page it first appears. And the Shop CSV lets sellers download their current listings in CSV format so they can import them into a spreadsheet.
