Reading AuctionBytes: Amazon.com Closes Distribution Centers
Amazon.com will close distribution centers in Gary, Indiana; Red Rock, Nevada; and Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, according to the Gary Post-Tribune newspaper . Amazon told the Seattle Times that the three closures represented "an opportunity to streamline the overall network" and reported that Amazon had operated 12 million square feet of leased fulfillment and warehouse space in North America at the end of 2008. The news about the closure came as it was revealed that Amazon.com CEO Jeff Bezos had spent the week working at one of his company's fulfillment centers in Lexington, Kentucky.
