Etsy has enhanced search by simplifying the dropdown menu, redesigning the search results pages, and adding an Advanced Search page. Etsy is an online marketplace for handmade and vintage items. The company plans to add the ability to search by seller and by location and will add an option to sort search results by "Most Relevant." (Search results will continue to be sorted by Most Recently Listed by default).
Etsy's search dropdown menu now offers the following options for searches: Handmade, Vintage, Supplies, All Items, Sellers. Previous options included "Handmade Items: tags, titles," "Vintage Items: tags, titles," "Supplies: tags, titles," "Handmade Items: tags, titles, descriptions" and "Materials." Etsy searches item tags and titles by default, and the Materials option has been moved to the new Advanced Search page.
Etsy also redesigned search results pages and added a price filter, and it will eventually add additional filters. When no results are found for a search, users will now be presented with suggestions for searching and will see items recently listed on the site.
Etsy also launched an Advanced Search page, accessible via the Search Tools box on every item search results page. Advanced Search allows shoppers to search within Handmade, Vintage, Supplies or All Items and to also search within the categories specific to those areas. Etsy said the Advanced Search page would grow as it rolls out additional enhancements, including improved options for searching by seller and by location, as well as more intuitive ways to refine searches.
Etsy users can attend a Virtual Lab on April 21 at 3:00pm Eastern to discuss Etsy Search.
