Alibris said it would soon add Google Checkout as a payment option on its website. Ablibris is an online marketplace for independent sellers of new and used books, music, and movies, as well as rare and collectible titles. The company said since it launched PayPal last year, more than 10% of purchases are now made using PayPal.
In other news, Alibris said its UK website is seeing double-digit growth, and first quarter emails that contained personalized product recommendations for newsletter subscribers have outperformed traditional newsletters, producing higher sales by double-digit percentages. The company plans to run similar campaigns in the coming months.
Alibris also reminded sellers of Amazon.com's new policy requirements for selling collectible books. Note that when sellers list with Alibris, their items are listed on qualifying partners' sites automatically, excluding Amazon and Barnes and Noble. Alibiris said sellers must opt in to Barnes and Noble, and its Amazon program helps sellers manage their existing Amazon Pro Merchant accounts.
