Etsy has added new search options to its search engine. Shoppers can now sort Etsy search results by Most Relevant, in addition to Most Recently Listed and by Price. While the default sort option for search results remains Most Recently Listed, users can now choose to view results for Handmade, Vintage, Supplies, All Items and category-specific searches sorted by Most Relevant.
Etsy said the search engine looks at a combination of item tags, titles, descriptions and materials to determine which items are most relevant for a given search query. Item listing date is a key factor in determining relevancy, as the company said it has found users value fresh results for their favorite searches. Relevancy also works for Advanced Search queries. The company offered sellers tips on how to list for relevancy.
Etsy has also added the ability to filter search results by items available to a certain country. The Search Tools box on search results pages now includes a dropdown to filter results by "ship to country." Buyers select their country from the dropdown menu, and the search results update to show only items from sellers who ship to the selected country or everywhere else. Etsy said it is also working on a feature that would allow shoppers to filter search results by the seller location.
