Infopia, which provides an ecommerce platform for online merchants, said its decision to move its data center in-house has resulted in higher uptime and a faster website, leading to improved buyer satisfaction and increased SEO rankings. The company said it has measured a decrease in shopping-cart abandonment since the move to its own data center which it attributes to less latency in the shopping and checkout process, translating into more revenues for Infopia merchants. The data center was formerly hosted by a large, international hosting center in Texas
Infopia's Director of Hosted Operations, Jean-Pierre Le Goaller, said he is seeing pages load at a rate of 40 percent faster than before, and customer data transfers are between 25% and 50% faster. "The move will also enable us to scale our infrastructure much more efficiently as we grow, and take advantage of the latest technologies. While we don't have enough history to track our uptime, we think it's going to be improved above the current 99.95% uptime, and it looks good so far. It was definitely worth it."
