Classifieds Get Social: Oodle Tweets Listings on Twitter

Reading AuctionBytes: Classifieds Get Social: Oodle Tweets Listings on Twitter

Oodle has begun tweeting classifieds listings from across its broad network on Twitter. The company said this will enable Twitter users to find listings when searching the social networking site. The Oodle feed is a sort of SEO strategy for Twitter, a way for Oodle classified listings to appear in Twitter search results.

The company has a separate Twitter feed (oodleblog) to share news and interact with followers.

Oodle's integration with Twitter will also allow sellers to share their Oodle classifieds on their own Twitter account so their followers can see their listings as they are posted.

CEO Craig Donato said he is learning from Oodle's experience on Facebook and MySpace that classified listings are increasingly becoming a form of conversation and is attempting to bring that learning to Twitter.

Ultimately it's about word of mouth marketing and getting people talking about your listings, Donato said. Local advertisers and sellers must figure out how to participate in the conversation.

Donato talked about this philosophy of turning P2P selling into a conversation and even entertainment when Oodle launched Facebook's classified service in March.

For the record, @Oodleblog joined Twitter in June 2008, and as of Thursday afternoon, had 174 followers and made 107 updates.
