Reading AuctionBytes: eBay Exec Joins Virtual Pawnshop Cash4Gold

David Knight has joined Cash4Gold to become its Senior Vice President for International Marketing and Expansion. He joins the virtual pawnshop from eBay where he served as Vice President of International Marketing and then Vice President of Internal Communication, managing all internal communications for eBay Marketplaces, Skype and PayPal.

Cash4Gold buys precious metals including gold, silver and platinum from the general public through the mail. In addition to expanding Cash4Gold's global reach, Knight is charged with enhancing the Cash4Gold brand overall. Interestingly, a search for the name "Cash4Gold" on Google brings back a number of negative reviews and blog posts that the company appears to be trying to eliminate.

According to Consumerist, Cash4Gold sued one person, a former employee, for writing false statements and, according to another article in Consumerist, offered a blogger $3,000 to remove or neutralize a negative post about the company because of its high placement on Google search results.

During his tenure at eBay, Knight successfully secured the company's place on the "Great Places to Work" list and skillfully executed all internal communications during the company's CEO transition in March 2008.
