eBay and PayPal now offer Bill Me Later as a payment option during checkout for Buy It Now purchases and for some auction listings. PayPal took into consideration general factors such as seller performance and product category when determining which auction listings would qualify. A PayPal spokesperson said, "Right now, Bill Me Later is on a limited number of auction listings, but we plan to ramp that up over the next few months as we roll out Bill Me Later more widely."
PayPal continues to offer its similar PayPal Pay Later service but will gradually phase it out.
With Bill Me Later, qualified eBay and PayPal customers in the U.S. can finance purchases, buying items and paying for them over time without using a credit card. PayPal customers will be able to access their Bill Me Later statements directly from their PayPal accounts, with the option to pay their Bill Me Later balances with PayPal. eBay had conducted tests of the integration last month on a limited basis.
Qualified customers can also use Bill Me Later at tens of thousands of online merchants that accept PayPal Express Checkout. When customers select the PayPal checkout button, Bill Me Later will be available as a funding choice along with their stored PayPal balance, bank accounts or credit cards.
Amazon.com had initially invested in Bill Me Later and had launched it as a payment option on its marketplace last summer, but stopped accepting it after eBay acquired Bill Me Later.
PayPal said it will continue to offer its other credit products in partnership with GE Money, including the eBay-branded MasterCard, the eBay Private Label Card, and PayPal's MasterCard Plus Card.
