Reading AuctionBytes: Alipay, China's Version of PayPal, Accepts Visa in Taiwan

Alipay, China's leading third-party online payment platform owned by Alibaba, announced it now enables payments made by Visa cards issued in Taiwan. This provides Taiwan consumers with a more convenient payment solution for online purchases on Taobao, China's largest Internet retail website, which is also owned by Alibaba.

Previously, Taiwan consumers used a service called Tao-1-Shop, an online payment channel powered by by Taobao, eDynamics and Chinatrust Commercial Bank, which requires users to first convert New Taiwan Dollars to RMB via Tao-1-Shop before making a purchase.

Taiwan is just the second region after Hong Kong where Alipay can support Visa payments. Alipay cooperates with 11 banks in Taiwan and seven banks in Hong Kong that issue Visa cards.
