Etsy periodically updates users about its product and marketing priorities, and this week it published an installment of "Talking Product" to discuss the latest updates to the site in the areas of Search, Checkout, Seller Tools, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Community, along with an overview of priorities for the remainder of this year and into early next year.
Etsy said it would soon go into a "code lockdown" so as not to disrupt the buying and selling experience on Etsy during the November/December shopping season. "During this period we will only release changes that will not risk the performance and user experience of the site."
Features under development include the following:
Search Suggestions will suggest relevant search queries as site visitors begin to type a query into the search bar. The suggestions will be derived from Etsy's search logs and will be displayed in a dropdown box.
Guest Checkout will enable new buyers to check out on Etsy without first choosing a username and registering on the site.
Currency Calculator on item pages will allow shoppers to quickly (and without leaving the page) calculate prices in currencies other than U.S. dollars. The actual transactions will still occur in U.S. dollars.
Etsy also said it has added a "recent popular related searches" feature in search results that are actual searches recently performed by Etsy shoppers, and said it gave shoppers the ability to filter their search results by Category. A Community Hub helps it focus communications on distinct audiences.
Etsy is also launching a brand new Help section and a new set of internal tools for its Support Team. Highlights include Searchable Help; Ask a Question; and Submit a Suggestion. A Help History feature allows users to view and update their questions to Etsy's Support Team and see responses right from the Help site using the My Help History page.
Etsy's Support Team has a new set of internal tools that integrate directly with the Help site, and the marketplace said every message sent to the Support Team is read and responded to by a real person.
